US PATRIOTISM
🌬️ patriotism the way I live it. Not loud. Not blind. Not perfect. Just honest. Just human. Just the long road of a man who still cares enough to think about it.
P - People who care People who carry the country like a memory, not a slogan, who feel its weight in the laundry basket, in the motorcycle waiting for a tune‑up, in the long roads they’ve driven and the ones they never will.
A - Admitting we’re not perfect Admitting the cracks is part of the love ... the ERA still waiting, the contradictions still humming under the July sun, the work unfinished but worth doing.
T - Totally speaking out Totally refusing silence when something’s wrong, the way Douglass did, the way every honest voice does when the soul steps out of the lost‑and‑found and says, “I’m here.”
R - Responsibility Responsibility is the quiet kind ... the kind that fixes what it can, holds what it must, and keeps the porch light on for better days.
I - Integrity Integrity is the road you walk when no one’s watching, the stretch of Route 66 where it’s just you, the sky, and the long hum of your own thoughts.
O - Openness Openness to the stories of others ... the soccer fans marveling at Buc‑ee’s, the women still waiting for equal rights, the travelers who see America with wonder we sometimes forget we have.
T - Tenderness Tenderness for the people under the flag, not the fabric itself ... the daughters who walked Europe with me, the wife laughing at the beach with her friends, the neighbors who wave from across the street.
I - Insight Insight that patriotism is not fireworks ... it’s reflection, it’s contradiction, it’s the ache and the pride living side by side.
S - Steadiness Steadiness in the long haul, the way a motorcycle holds the road, the way a man holds his values even when the country wobbles.
M - Memory Memory of the roads, the music, the people, the places ... Cadillac Ranch, Tulsa, Arizona, New Mexico ... the whole wide map of my life stitched into the meaning of the flag.

The whole wide map of my life stitched into the meaning of the flag.. that says patriotism all by itself.
I can get behind this kind of patriotism. Very, very much.
